On April 21, 2017, Farragut High School announced that their basketball team had found a new coach, Jon Higgins. He is a former UT basketball player. Not only was he a college athlete, but he also had the opportunity to play the sport overseas. Higgins loved his experience abroad, saying, “The culture is different, and the pace of living is definitely slower. All you do is practice and play.” After 3 years overseas, Higgins knew he wanted to come back to the states and start his coaching career, which lead him to his start at Central High School in Knoxville.

Jon Higgins has coached nine years of basketball, spending his ninth coaching season at Farragut High School. When we asked Higgins what motivated him to coach at Farragut, he quickly responded, “There is an opportunity at Farragut due to their winning program and the character in the players.”

As the high school basketball season comes to an end, Higgins hopes that the program is better now than when it was before he got here. One of his main goals for the kids he coaches, is to shape them into better players and better men.
