After not winning an SEC game, the Vols decided to make the move and fire Coach Butch Jones. The start of the coaching search was disastrous. The Vols almost hired infamous coach, Greg Schiano, who was allegedly was part of the scandal at Penn State.  The Vols then tried to hire Purdue’s head coach, Jeff Brohm. It was reported that it was a done deal, but it never actually happened. This led to UT firing Athletic Director John Currie. Tennessee was now looking for an athletic director and a head coach.

Former UT head coach, Phillip Fulmer stepped up to the task and was hired as the new athletic director. This decision pleased the UT fan base and made them excited about the coaching search. Fulmer was determined with finding a new coach and found the perfect fit for the new head coach. Jeremy Pruitt, Alabama’s defensive coordinator, was hired for the job. This made the UT fan base very hopeful for the next upcoming years. What started with a disastrous coaching search, ended with a new athletic director and head coach that made the fans excited for football season once again.
